Passion

Hey!! I wasn't going to write anything this week due to finals.  But 2 things which are totally different but, in my eyes, run parallel with each other, happened this week.  First, all congratulations go to my nephew, Trevor Coston, for being signed by the Chicago Bears (no Mom, I'm not exploiting him).  He has worked hard and I have no doubts that he will continue to work his tail off to be the best he can be.  Second, anyone who follows football is more than likely in shock over the death of Junior Seau.  It looks like it was a suicide.  Now people will say he took too many blows to the head and that it may have contributed to his early demise.  This is my take on it:  Have you ever been so passionate about something that you feel like life is worthless without it? All that you wanted in life was to be part of this one big thing and, without your permission, it gets taken away from you. You trained all of your life for it.  It has brought you your greatest joy (and pain). Then, one day, it's gone.  A lot of people have never had that kind of love for something so they can't relate.  I have lost two things in my life that I have deeply cared for: my mother and football.  It has taken me years to adjust to not having either one in my life.  My love for my mother still runs deep.  Her passing is one reason why I question religion today (another topic for another day).  I also spent years trying to replace the high that I got from football.  Alcohol, lady parts, weed, etc. couldn't replace it.  I think that is why I have become so dedicated to accounting.  I have finally found something that keeps me intellectually challenged as well as a tool that feeds my passion for numbers.  Nerd Alert!!! But maybe, for a guy like Junior Seau, he just got sick and tired of searching for something to replace football.  Unfortunately, like the saying goes, suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.   If you are having any thoughts of depression or stress or even suicide, seek help and evaluate your life.  Think about your family before taking that drastic step.
